The project was to promote inclusive education (IE), where all students, including those with disabilities can study at mainstream educational institutions together with their peers.

On Friday 2nd of november 2023, the closing ceremony of the Japan’s grant assistance, ““Developing curricula of teacher training course at higher education for promotion of Inclusive education in Hisor” implemented by Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) was held at Pedagogical College of Hisor city. H.E.Toshihiro Aiki – Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan, Deputy Chairman of Hisor city (Hukumat), representatives from of Ministry of Education and science of Tajikistan, and Academy of Education of Tajikistan, including Director of pedagogical college of Hisar city and other distinguished guests attended the ceremony.

The project was to promote inclusive education (IE), where all students, including those with disabilities can study at mainstream educational institutions together with their peers. The project aimed to develop teacher training course at higher education based on inclusive education, and to increase the access to education for all students in different learning needs.

During the project period (10th of February 2023 – 20th of December 2023), AAR Japan implemented following activities in close cooperation with Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan: 1) implemented two kinds of training of trainers for four College lectures, who teach the teacher training course at the College. The training covered understanding of disability, unique characteristics of children with disabilities, universal design for learning and reasonable accommodation,

2) made the College premises accessible for all students including students with disabilities, which includes installation of slopes, flattening the gaps within premise of College, installation of grab bars and construction of an accessible toilet block, 3) conducted awareness raising activities regarding new opportunities of the College to teach persons Association for Aid and Relief Japan Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan with disabilities.

AAR Japan would like to express our sincere gratitude for deep understanding and warm support from the Government of Japan, through Embassy of Japan as well as close cooperation with Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan. AAR Japan hopes our project opens doors for students with disabilities to enroll them into higher education, as well as that graduates of the Pedagogical College in Hisor would be the future IE practitioners to promote IE in the Republic of Tajikistan.
