During the period of the pandemic, 16,400 citizens were returned to Tajikistan from foreign countries. These people could not return to their countries as borders were closed.
On 10th August 2020, in cooperation with the relevant authorities of Kazakhstan, 182 citizens of Tajik republic were delivered from Almaty to Dushanbe by a special flight of “Somon Air” airline, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.
Earlier, on 30th July, 261 citizens of the country were taken out of Kazakhstan by land transport. As the borders were closed, these people were temporarily stuck on Zhibek Zholy checkpoint in Kazakhstan, bordering the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In total, according to official data, during the COVID-19 pandemic, 16,400 citizens were exported from foreign countries to Tajikistan. Including, 10,623 people were returned to their homeland with air transport, 5,777 people – by land transport.
