In the near future, a new checkpoint will be opened on the Tajik-Uzbek border, Tajikistan Sputnik reports.
According to the publication, the construction of a new border post is going to be fineshed. The checkpoint will be designed to pass people and cars.
The next checkpoint will be the 18th in a row open on the border between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
Earlier, the first deputy MED of Uzbekistan Ilhom Nematov said that the republics are negotiating a new border post in the Jizzak region.
We will remind that most of the border crossings between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were closed in the mid-2000s due to increased tension between the countries. In 2018, only two border crossings worked on the Tajik-Uzbek border – in Tursunzoda-Surkhandarya and Buston-Bekabad.
In anticipation of Uzbekistan President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev visit to Tajikistan, the parties opened 16 checkpoints.
