Celebrations of the 5500th anniversary of Sarazm and the 700th anniversary of the famous poet Kamol Khujandi were included in the list of holiday dates of UNESCO.

This is reported by Sputnik Tajikistan with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan.

The initiative to include the 5500th anniversary of Sarazm and the 700th anniversary of the famous poet Kamol Khujandi belongs to the delegation of Tajikistan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic specified that the proposal was unanimously approved at the UNESCO General Conference.

The celebration of the 5500th anniversary of ancient Sarazm is planning on September 12, 2020.

In 2001, the Tajik government declared the Sarazm Archaeological Complex in Penjikent the Center for the Formation of Tajik Civilization, Crafts and Urban Development.

At Tajikistan’s suggestion, the Sarazm complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010.
